Downloading Data

Guidance on retrieving data from your project scenario.

The Orbital Stack Viewer enables monthly subscribers to export raw data and 3D imagery of their simulation results. Subscribers can choose to download their data in either VTP or glTF file formats.

VTP files contain the raw numerical data from the simulation results at each point and glTF files are a visual representation of those results. glTF files lack the numerical information for outputs. The colors in the glTF file are derived by applying a colormap to the raw data.

Data is downloaded as individual result layers.

How can I utilize the data?

As a subscriber you can download your analysis results and streamlines as 3D image files and access the raw data as X, Y, Z coordinate and value files, enabling you to:

  • Showcase results in your own CAD software
  • Customize results with your own colors
  • Aggregate and compare results
  • Import data into downstream apps and calculations
  • Perform in-depth numerical analysis or comparative studies

Where to access file downloads?

Individual Results Layers can be downloaded in the Layers Tab

Which software is required to access and view these files?

VTP files primarily pertain to ParaView, developed by Kitware. ParaView is an open-source scientific visualization application designed to cater to the visualization requirements of large datasets.

Using ParaView
  • Simply drag and drop your VTP file into ParaView
  • Enable the layer visibility by clicking the “eye” icon on the left side of the Pipeline Browser, then click the Split Vertical Axis icon next to RenderView1
  • In the Create View window that opens, navigate to the bottom of the list and select SpreadSheet View
  • Under the Showing drop-down menu select the layer you want to view
  • The raw numerical data for the selected simulation results layer will now be displayed.

Downloading data is exclusively accessible to monthly subscribers.
